Protect the hands pulling weeds,

Weeds that are intertwined, weaved
Tightly among the green chain-link
Fence mesh.

A navy blue floppy brim canvas hat--
The protruding circumference shades
The ears and the bridge of the nose.

The mind wanders, thinks about last
Night's takeout family meal--

Spicy fried chicken, butter biscuits and
Coleslaw--waiting in the refrigerator.

While mom is away, the child will play;
Pretend to be a landscaper's assistant.

She returns home.
