Petits Fours [listen]

Check of the weather.
The line is drawn:
The afternoon, sun radiant.
Ennui dispelled; parkland jaunt.

Guitar player takes seat.
Anxious, settles--abundant shade.
Arms stretch; body wilts.
Mind composes; instrument lilts.

Tall fellow (straw fedora)
Tosses dusty bocce ball.
Beneath canopy, between trees,
Lower height walkers tightrope.

Child cries, "More candy!"
Another, "Try, catch me!"
Someone, "Hey, shut up!"
Else, "Ain't talkin', you!"

Family fits cafe table:
Sandwich, sandwich, pizza slices.
Ice cream truck track:
Tinny ditty, jingle tune.

Sneakers, shorts onwards come:
A jog going--went.
Bare feet flip-flop, backpack carried,
Blanket lain, novel read.

Two young persons converse.
The couple smoke words.
Their opinion, second hand:
Summer class blues--coiffure.

Three-way frisbee toss fun.
Skateboarders roll single file.
Bicycle deliveries, baby prams,
Picnickers--onlookers passing time.
