Overnight, into the twilight,
Before the day begins--
One dreams déjà vu:
Yukon gold found in the
Mash; a mint. For mushrooms,
A pining (Nuts!); a pear; a
Leg of veal; butter.
What clutter!
Alarmed, ideas awaken jumbled
Together and listlessly listed--
Not to forget tasks: hunt and gather.

Overnight, into the twilight,
Before the day begins--
A stretching yoga or
A stationary row?
No. To the kitchen
I decide to go.
For in the pot atop the stove,
A chicken fully cooked, waiting.
Flesh pulled from the carcass,
Packed and packaged, refrigerated.
The stock, poured through a sieve,
Poured into a container, later for
Soup, perhaps not.
Alternatively,
A cream, light and sour;
Melting sweet lima beans;
Meaty breast strands;
Toast.

Overnight, into the twilight,
Before the day begins--
A shower, aah! A shave, nah!
Underwear, a robe.
Where did I put my slippers?
Where is the youth?
Nestled in the blanket, jostled.
Get up.... The time is now!!!
A kettle is filled with
Filtered water to boil:
A favorite mug and tea.
Grapefruit, only a fourth,
Cut tiny sections with rind
To grasp as the fruit is raked
Between the teeth.
A bagel is lightly toasted,
Buttered, smeared with jam.
"This morning's top stories,
First the weather and traffic."
Coffee.
Yogurt with milk added
To cereal with raisins.
Orange juice with sparkling
Mineral water.

Overnight, into the twilight,
Before the day begins--
Meals are planned, dinners
In the course of time.
